Undertones frontman turned music industry watchman.
Likely the only Tech 100 personality to ever sport a back-combed bob, Sharkey juggles being lead singer of The Undertones (they of hit single Teenage Kicks), having a successful solo career (with A Good Heart shooting to number one in seven countries) with being head of UK Music, an organisation which represents the interests of anyone involved in the music industry.
‘The emergence of Amazon MP3 and 7digital leading the way by removing DRM on tracks” was a massive step forward in the right direction, Sharkey told T3. “Personally, I’m pretty relaxed about technology and digital distribution – as long as those that make music have the opportunity to get paid – but it’s great to see some serious competition in the download market”.
